Bitcoin has developed over 10 years ago, and the history of its creator has not been revealed. The name is known – Satoshi Nakamoto. That’s all, there are no photos, the biography, country of residence, even nationality is not known. Despite the name, which alludes to Japan as the country of origin, there are serious controversies. There are several options in the use of who Satoshi Nakamoto is.
What is known about him
The first information about Satoshi Nakamoto dates back to October 2008. He has published an article on Bitcoin that describes the basic principles of a decentralized network. Satoshi also created a cryptocurrency wallet and a distributed network.
Satoshi Nakamoto communicated with his followers through text messages. He took all measures to maintain anonymity, in particular, he used the Thor to access the Internet.
When registering on the forums in 2009, Satoshi indicated the country of residence in Japan, the date of birth on 04/05/1975.
These data are doubtful, on other resources Nakamoto indicates the age of 37 years, it turns out he was born in 1972. As for the country of residence, Japan is in great doubt. In correspondence, he uses exclusively English, mostly the British version. Initially, there is no Japanese localization of Bitcoin, which is strange for a native of Japan.
The latest information about Satoshi dates back to 2011. He gave his successor Gavin Andresen the keys to managing Bitcoin’s security.
By the way, Andresen communicated with Satoshi Nakamoto by e-mail directly, there are not many such people.
Satoshi Nakamoto, whoever he is, is a wealthy person. According to existing information, he has 1.1 million BTC. With a price of over $ 60 thousand (spring 2021), Nakamoto’s fortune exceeded $ 60 billion. Satoshi mined his Bitcoins in 2009-2010.
Major versions
Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase warns the SEC of possible problems with the disclosure of data on Satoshi Nakamoto. Concerns are raised about the possible movement of assets belonging to the mysterious creator of Bitcoin.
Nevertheless, journalists and researchers continue to search, put forward various options. First of all, we are talking about:
- Nick Szabo.
- Dorian Nakamoto.
- Craig Stephen Wright.
- Hal Finney.
- Michael Claire.
Nick Szabo
Mysterious, but an existing person. Nick is a scientist, researcher. His knowledge extends to different areas – cryptography, programming, jurisprudence, economics, finance. Szabo was engaged in smart contracts in the mid-90s. At the same time, the Bit Gold algorithm was developed.
Nick’s connection with Nakamoto can be traced to various aspects of his activities. They were developing some ideas about cryptocurrency. Linguistic examination of Bitcoin’s technical documentation and Szabo’s texts yields striking similarities. Nick likely participated in the writing of the white paper.
Nick Szabo lived in the same city with Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto, was familiar with Hal Finney.
Dorian Nakamoto
In 2014, the press took on Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto, an engineer from the United States of Japanese origin. A Newsweek article claimed that Dorian is Satoshi Nakamoto. Naturally, the engineer denies everything said.
By the way, Dorian’s photographs are often used in articles about Satoshi Nakamoto.
Craig Stephen Wright
All other applicants deny their relationship with Satoshi Nakamoto. Australian Craig Wright, on the other hand, claims that he is the Bitcoin developer.
Craig Stephen Wright is an Australian businessman and scientist. In 2015, Wired journalist Andy Greenberg wrote about Wright. He pointed out a possible connection between Craig and Satoshi. At the same time, Wright declares that he is a mysterious developer. He refused to prove the rights to the first Bitcoins, to provide the keys, which casts doubt on his words.
Craig Wright created Bitcoin SV (BSV), a fork of Bitcoin. In court, he proves his case. In 2019, Wright received the copyright for the white paper and the original Bitcoin code. In June 2021, the High Court of London banned the owner of Bitcoin.org from providing Bitcoin white paper for download in the UK.
Hal Finney
He is a famous cryptographer from the USA. He is also associated with Satoshi Nakamoto. Finney died in 2014, and he renounced his involvement in the creation of Bitcoin. He is known for being the first to receive a transfer of 50 Bitcoins from Satoshi to his wallet.
Michael Claire
Michael Clare is a programmer from Ireland. He was pointed out as a possible Satoshi Nakamoto by Joshua Davis, a New Yorker journalist. Claire meets the compiled list of basic requirements that a cryptocurrency developer must have:
- be proficient in the C ++ programming language;
- understand cryptography and peer-to-peer networks;
- be in the trend of the world economy, finance.
Claire denies her involvement in Nakamoto, but she does not provide evidence either.
Other versions
There are also versions about a group of developers, the participation of American special services. Laszlo Heinitz, an American programmer, believes that Bitcoin’s code is too well written for a single programmer. Therefore, according to his version, a whole group of coders worked.
American secret services may also be involved in the development of Bitcoin. This idea is being promoted by Kaspersky Lab. Some researchers put forward the idea of involvement in the development of cryptocurrency by representatives of large TNCs – Samsung, Toshiba, Nakamichi, Motorola.
A SpaceX employee nominated his boss for the role of a cryptocurrency developer. Musk denies the relationship to the development of Bitcoin. None of these versions have found their confirmation or refutation. The search for Satoshi Nakamoto continues.
